WHY EASYCHAIR

The easy-chair aka planter’s chair is a piece of traditional furniture, one of the most recognizable symbols of India’s colonial past, which many people associate with memories of (southern and eastern) India especially; redolent of the days of the Raj, of estates in the hills and burra sahibs, of warm summer days and tall drinks…

Indian craftsmen commissioned by the early Europeans brought out western style furniture featuring local touches and detail. The hot Indian summers eventually resulted in a low chair with a reclining back and armrests that opened out to form leg rests, while the cane provided ventilation. Some even had a glass holder, a depression cut into the wooden armrest to hold that cold gin & tonic. Mainly seen on bungalow verandahs at first, the design of the easy chair was all about comfort, relaxation and generosity of space, its reputation for languorous decadence eventually giving it the moniker, ‘the Bombay Fornicator’.

At EasyChair Hospitality we welcome our guests and business partners to lean back with a drink and a book. And doze off, knowing that you will be well looked after.
