Atul Kochhar
The first Indian chef to win a Michelin star in 2001 followed by a second in 2007, UK based international celebrity Chef Atul Kochhar has changed the way people perceive and experience Indian food.
Starting his career with the Oberoi Hotels and then under the guidance of renowned chef Bernard Kunig at the Hilton in Dubai, Atul moved to the UK in 1994 to open the Tamarind Restaurant. Successive highly acclaimed restaurants have followed where, inspired by his native India, Atul has continued to combine his heritage with his love of British ingredients to create and deliver modern Indian cuisine.
While his innovative take on food continues to win Atul an admiring public through regular TV appearances including BBC's Great British Menu, BBC's Saturday Kitchen, James Martin Saturday Morning, Yes Chef, Curry On, The Chef and the BBC2 and Netflix series, Million Pound Menu, Atul has also written a number of cookbooks.
Atul’s time outside of the kitchen encompasses an active role in The Prince’s Trust and as ambassador to The British Asian Trust, supporting high-impact charities in South Asia and the UK. Early 2020 Atul embarked on his second voyage to Antarctica to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital, a charity that remains very close to his heart due to personal reasons.
Atul has had the privilege of cooking for Prince Charles at St James’s Palace and was invited to meet HM The Queen during a state visit of the President of India.
